Progress

Yesterday was a busy day for me, because I had to take 4 midterms, as well as taking my hubby to the movies for his birthday.  I did well on all of my midterms.  The hubby enjoyed his movie, as did I.  We saw The Eagle and it was full of AWESOME!

On to the Sweet Bag.  Today, I traced the design on to the ground fabric (32 count Zweigart Belgian Linen) and stretched it on to the stretcher bars.  Thumb tacks are hard to press into wood.  I also need more tacks, as 70 was not quite enough.  It is tight enough now that I can get started on the embroidery portion today at fighter practice.

I have a few calligraphy and illumination items I am going to have to work on in the coming weeks also, as well as a beaded veil and keeping caught up on my school work.  My plan is to work on the sweet bag a little bit every day.

Until Next Time:)

The Design

Here are pictures of the design for my Elizabethan sweet bag.  It is my original design based on the motifs used in Elizabethan embroidery.  The colors are not accurate, as my colored pencil box didn't have many choices.  I should be able to get this onto my ground fabric tonight and maybe even onto my frame.

I am very excited about this endeavour because Elizabethan embroidery is just so darned cool. :)

Of course their sideways...because I am the technologically impaired.  I hope to have more progress pictures soon.

I'm Back!

So, I haven't had much time to blog in a long while.  Life got in the way. I'm a full time stay at home mom and student, as well as being busy with my hobby.  We just got back from Estrella War.  It was fun, despite the wind and dust that happened on Saturday.  I am really excited about my new embroidery project, an Elizabethan Sweet Bag.  I started one once before with very little guidance.  I quit that one and am starting a new one, which I'm happier with.  Expect many blogs about that in the future.

I've been too busy to blog!

I've been too busy to blog! I've been working on scrolls, doing embroidery, and trying to organize my craft room.  I will post pictures of the craft room when it's done. I should have pics of one of my completed scrolls soon. (it's based on Manesse codex and I LOVE IT!) See you soon!

Feeling Old

I haven't been doing much crafty stuff lately. My semester is almost over, I'm getting ready for my daughter's birthday party, and I have camping event to prepare for.
Anywas, I'm feeling a bit old today.  4 years ago I was in labor, getting ready to give birth to my baby girl.  (30 hours of labor to just end up with a c-section...and no food during those 30 hours. I was not a happy camper.) She is such a blessing to us, and especially to me.  She's my little angel who makes me laugh on a daily basis and who sometimes takes care of me if I'm not feeling 100%.  I feel old because she's turning four.  I feel young because she keeps me young. She's growing too fast and before you know it she'll be leaving the nest.
Sorry for my maudalin post.

Crafty endeavours from over the weekend

So, this weekend I should have been doing homework.  Guess what? Quelle suprise, I did not.  I decided to cut out two Viking apron dresses.  I don't have pictures yet because I really don't know how to post them within my blog.  Yes, I am a little computer handicapped.
Friday night, I went and shot archery.  I did fairly well.  I then went again on Sunday morning and did worse.  I must shoot better at night. :) Sunday I also got to practice rapier.  I am just starting out with a bunch of ladies.  It's really fun and we all wonder why we didn't try it before.
I may not be around a lot this week, with finals coming up, as well as my little one's 4th birthday party.  How time does fly! I also have Highland's War coming up...and a whole bunch of other events in June.
Talk to you soon!

My first ever blog post!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my little corner of the world. My name is Melissa and I am a craftaholic.  I live in Arizona (the greater Phoenix area) and am a SAHM to a beautiful precocious almost 4 year old little girl named Cady.  I am also a full time student.  This blog will be about my life, my family, and my crafty endeavours.  I am a member of a medieval re-creation society and I like to dabble in all kinds of artsy stuff from illumination to jewelry making to costuming to weaving to embroidery.  In my mundane life I also scrapbook and make cards and diaper cakes.  One day I hope to sell some of my crafty bits and make a little moola on the side.  So, sit back, relax, and enjoy CREATIONS BY MJ
